does anyone know why Edward is voiced by a man in English?

I've been wondering for a while why is it that FUNimation chose a man to voice Edward in the English dub rather than a woman like how it was in the original Japanese version? I can't seem to find out why FUNimation made this choice, does anyone know why they made that decision? also do you guys like that better or think its worse?
