Hey guys! Why do people go straight to turtle or prone after a failed throw? Are we supposed to defend using turtle until ref resets or there are other ways to get up?

Technique

Coming from BJJ, I'd usually go to my back, and in wrestling class I'd grab a leg and sitout or whatever. But I noticed that in class people usually prefer to turtle and defend from there until reset, which tbh, looks easier than trying to setup a sweep and everything. Is this the default? And are there other ways of getting up from this position without being at too much of a disadvantage? Thanks guys!
