Will calling my CC companies and asking to lower my debt hurt me in anyway?
First. I don't even know if this is possible. I know with some companies where you have debt they can settle for less. I think medical and dental bills may be a good example of this.
But is this even possible with a bank credit card or other big name CC?
I won't break it down.
But as an example. I have 5 CC and around 40k in debt. My utilization is about 50% or so not including my AMEX which has no limit (well i cant check the limit without a credit hit I guess). One is with my bank NFCU One is the CSR One is BoA card with 0% int from a balance transfer for 21 months I have 2 other cards with no balance. Amazon, and Amex platinum.
My credit was just rocked recently because I added a ton to my cards for a big move. Went from 770+ to 670ish
On the bright side. I'll have 90k in about a month from selling a house and intend to pay the debt off.
Ok. So the question is. Can I call my bank, or BoA or Chase and ask to settle the debt for lower. To simplify let's say I have 13k on each card. And what's more important to me is will this hurt my credit at all? Does it show up as a bad mark that I couldn't pay it all? I know my credit may get hit at first when I pay everything off cause my utilization will go down. But it should steadily come back
And secondly. Should I even worry about paying off the 0% card. Or should I just keep my plan to have it paid off in 21 mo. So the interest never hits.
