Poll on the Future of the Sub. Please read and comment
Voting to decide the future direction of the sub
Options: You can find the details of rules that will be enforced and how moderation will work in each option here
To Summarise, the options are
1️⃣ Non-curated Feed: Feed will continue to look like what it has been during this free for all week. Posting rules will be completely removed. Other rules will continue to be enforced.
2️⃣ User Curated Content : We will not curate the feed or otherwise act on any posts or comments unless members report them. All content will be completely user driven. You will have to report the post and we will moderate ONLY reported posts. Posts will actioned ONLY when the number of reports cross a reasonable threshold. We will not remove a post that has a single report, since there are no weekly threads to redirect such posts to.
3️⃣ Moderators Curated Content: Choose this if you are of the opinion the current framework of the rules are good, but they can be relaxed. Existing rules will be modified to strike a balance between detail, searchability and laxness. Moderators will not spend extra time workshopping posts to maximize their potential.
4️⃣ Status Quo, ie the Current Detailed Rules: This means the feed will continue to look like it has for the last few months (post - protest). Current level of detail will be maintained, but rules will be made simpler to apply.
In all options: Safety rules, Reddit ToS and site policy will be strictly enforced. Spam and other potentially inflammatory or irrelevant content will be removed at moderator's discretion.
We’ve created a chart for comparison on key issues, that may be of help
You can find examples of requirements in Option 3 vs Option 4 for a few common flairs below. Even in option 4, requirements will be slightly relaxed.
The Poll
We’ve had a lot of discussion on how to conduct the poll and finally zero-ed in on a weighted or stacked poll so that we can find the best gauge member preferences.
Instructions to Vote in the poll
Please cast your vote using the following format
- First Choice: “Insert number”
- Second Choice: “Insert number”
- Third Choice: “Insert number”
- Fourth Choice: “Insert number”
For example
- If you have a ranking preference for all options, your answer could be
- First Choice: “1”
- Second Choice: “2”
- Third Choice: “3”
- Fourth Choice: “4”
- Or if you're interested in 1 and only one option
- First Choice: “1”
- Second Choice: “NA”
- Third Choice: “NA”
- Fourth Choice: “NA”
- Or if you have a preference between 1 and 2, but definitely don’t want 3 or 4
- First Choice: “1”
- Second Choice: “2”
- Third Choice: “NA”
- Fourth Choice: “NA”
Calculating the Results
- All first choices will be weighted at 4, second choices will be weighed at 3, third choices at 2 and fourth choices at 1. NA will be weighed at 0.
- So in example 1, total vote weight 10. Distributed as 4, 3, 2, 1 respectively, In example 2, total vote weight: 4, distributed as 4, 0, 0, 0 respectively. In example 3, total vote weight: 7, distributed as 4, 3, 0, 0 respectively.
- Since this poll is weighted and results depend heavily on the format, only votes using the format will be tallied. Please use the format given above, to make your choices clear.
- Comments will be locked a week from now. That is, at 18th October Midnight. Please write in your choices by then.
- We’ll edit the post closer to the 18th, to add details on when results will be announced, since the quantum of feedback will affect the time taken to tally and recheck the results.
If you have doubts
- If you have any doubts / queries or require clarification, you may reply to the pinned comment and ask.
- DO NOT make a top level comment with anything other than your vote choices, because this could cause issues when we’re taking the count
-
- If you have other feedback to share, you can do so and in this thread or this thread
How Posting works until results announced?
- Posting rules continue to be suspended.
- Post formats will not be enforced.
- Weekly threads will go up as usual. You can choose to chat, comment there. Moderators will not enforce or direct posts there by default.
- Standalone low effort posts / Personal queries will be removed or redirected to relevant threads IF user report threshold is reached.
- Spam as per current definition will be removed.
- Karma and account age restrictions for posts and comments will be enforced.
Other Points to Note
Please take your time and consider the options before voting. ¸
The winning option will decide the direction of the future of this sub. We will not be reversing course, if we receive feedback that is inconsistent with the winning option post closing the poll.
While the nitty gritties in the chosen curation type can be refined we will not be switching from no curation to user curation or from user curation or mod curation etc. The results of the poll will be considered as the directive from the users and we will work accordingly.
