How to remove dip nails without dissolving nail glue?

I have a dip manicure I want to remove so I can paint my nails a new color. I currently have tips glued on that I’d like to keep for length. Is there anyway I can get the dip powder off at home while keeping the fake nails on?

Is it possible to just file them down and then paint over them?

Be gentle with me if these are dumb questions! 😂 I never do my own nails but I don’t have time to go get them done before a trip!
