Road trips and offroad

Hello,

I'm struggling to choose a car which will be the only one. Main uses will be drive kids to school, go to groceries. Also I love long road trips and want drive unpaved road/terrain with confidence, do winter driving in mountains (going over passes or to ski slopes). Ideally I want some SUV with decent offroad capabilities out of box.

Jeep Wrangler imo is not comfortable in daily life. It's purpose is some hard offroading.

Toyota 4Runner is morally old and hasn't been updated. New Land Cruiser is not available. New Lexus GX550 is not available.

The only option I thought I had was Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk. However I'm seriously concerned with their powertrain after some online investigation.
I want a reliable car since it's going to be the only one.

Maybe I'm missing something.

Or I should just buy some used relatively cheap car for offroading?
