move boot to SSD after "move data"

Details:

HAOS running on pi 4 4gb. I had a spare SSD and a USB3 to sata lying around so i decided to utilize the "move data to external drive" option in HA. it was only after i hit go that i realized th pi was still going to use the ssd to boot. ideally i'd like to boot straight to ssd. everything i've read so far says i should have updated the pi firmware to enable booting from ssd and then load the HA image straight to the SSD then restore a backup.

at this point, is it possible to move the the boot part over to the SSD and not lose the data?if no, and i have to wipe the SSD then restore from backup, will HA complain about the "missing" external drive?
