Mog Tablets Message

Hey, trying to get a kupon, and unsure of something. As I recall, if you enter a zone where a mog tablet is located before it has been uncovered, there will be a message telling you it's somewhere there-- you only need to find it thereafter. Am I remembering this right? Surely you don't have to do just trapse across every zone where one hasn't been found hoping to run across one, right?
