Question for professors from a “non-degree seeking student”
So, I’m enrolled in a class at the local community college as a non-degree seeking student. I’ve done this a few times, and playing the student is usually no problem: I come to class, do the work, learn some things, and usually get an A.
My current class, however, is trying my patience. My professor is a last minute replacement and either doesn’t know what he’s doing or just doesn’t care to make an effort—whatever, I’m not perusing a degree, this is supposed to be just for fun. BUT, he’s asking for an obscene amount of homework. I usually try to be a “good student” and shoot for an A, but I’m not feeling it this semester. If I had audited the class, this would be a non issue, but it’s too late to switch to that.
My question is, would it be rude to tell the professor, “Hi Professor, I just wanted to let you know that I’m a non-degree seeking student taking this class for personal enrichment, so I won’t be keeping up with all the homework assignments. I realize this will impact my overall grade, and I’m fine with that.”
It feels weird to just not do all the homework, but it also feels weird to tell him I don’t care about my grade. Thoughts?
