The intro of the broadcast features a simple christmas-themed border around the Humanity First symbol and underlining the title. The intro fades out and cuts to camera feed with a human wearing a full facemask, a short fake Santa beard was taped to the lower portion of the mask.
“Happy holidays to all you revolutionaries, as you can see I am dressed for tonight’s ‘gift-giving’.” The Doctor spoke as he flicked the beard before stepping towards the camera and turning it to the left. The camera refocuses to now include a human bound to a chair across from a dead Venlil in similar restraints.
The Venlil’s corpse is bloated, as orange blood and foam leaks from its mouth onto the bloodstained fur of its chest.
The Doctor steps partially into frame before speaking. “Some of you may not recognize her, but this is what remains of Hethek. She was the Head Exterminator for the Riverford district.” He gestured to the bloated corpse, and put on two layers of surgical gloves before grabbing her hair and lifting her head up.
“She learned to say sorry.” He says before letting go, her head dropping as more dark orange fluid spills from her mouth wetly.
“Unfortunately, the Identity of our next patient is a secret. I understand that some of you will be angered by this but you’ll soon understand.” The man gestures towards the restrained human, whose face is completely obscured by a censor bar.
“Now this man is a member of our own organization, and he is responsible for the death & severe injury of several U.N soldiers.” The Doctor walks around to the left side of the man in the chair, and continues speaking.
“Down in the Riverford District, all he was instructed to do was incite and escalate a riot. He was serving up a distraction for the U.N so that we could bring some specific Venlil into our custody. ” The Doctor’s voice held a tone of contempt as his hand hovered over a tray of various tools, plenty of them caked in dried blood.
“The man he killed was against us, but he was no less human than any of us. Beyond this, his escalation has led to a hearty investigation from the U.N which has tightened the collective noose we all share.”
“But no patient of mine has never not been redeemed, and his is a special case. He is human after all, and what I implore you to remember is that we humans can change.” The man checked his gloves were tight enough before picking up a boxcutter from the tray.
“He certainly wasn’t always like this, none of us were.” The Doctor looks over to the camera before stepping in front of the Venlil’s corpse. He holds her head and extends the blade of the box cutter, the sound of which woke up the captive human.
“Please-” The man choked out dryly, his voice sounding broken and hoarse.
“The camera is rolling Daniel.” The Doctor interrupted him, and he began slicing away the loose skin and muscles of the Venlil’s lower jaw. The captive man gagged and retched as the Doctor pulled the jaw partially free.
“She’s already dead..” He spoke in a whisper.
“In death she is redeemed for her foul life, and so shall you be redeemed from her death.” The Doctor’s voice was level and calm as he carved through the decomposing flesh. He finally separated the jaw from the head and placed it aside on a tray. The fluid that only dripped from the mouth before has covered his gloves, and without obstruction now trickles out of the Venlil’s throat.
“I know you remember some of this smell, the metallic taste in the air?” The doctor didn’t turn to face his patient as he collected some of the murky orange fluid in a shot glass.
“You only know that he nearly killed himself, I doubt he actually told you why.” The doctor set the shotglass down on the tool tray beside ‘Daniel’ with a firm clack.
“For you viewers at home, I am referring to his Venlil ‘friend’ whom he locked in a closet for hours. That Venlil was a farm survivor, and I know you have all seen that footage.” The Doctor’s flat tone wavered as anger crept into his voice.
“Clawed his forearms open in an attempt to kill himself, broke his claws and left deep scratches in the closet door itself.” Daniel began visibly shaking in the restraints as his chest heaved and shuddered.
“Please don't hurt him..” He choked out in a strained voice as he choked back tears.
“I won’t have to.” The Doctor responded, and pulled a holopad from his pocket and tapped it a few times before holding it out towards Daniel.
“H-hi daniel...Its Vek, calling from the hospital. I-I’m recovering but it sucks without my friend here…Can you please call me when you get the chance?” The voice from the holopad was distinctly a Venlil, and their voice sounded just as broken as Daniels.
“You’re doing a perfect job it seems, not a single call after you left hi-”
“I DIDN’T LEAVE HIM!” Daniel lurches forward in the chair as he suddenly screams at the Doctor, his knuckles turning white as he balled his broken fingers into fists.
“HE NEVER FUCKING TOLD ME ABOUT HIS PAST!” Spittle could be seen flying from behind the censor bar.
“Did you ever tell him of yours?” The Doctor’s tone was cold as he set the holopad down beside himself on the cart.
Daniel sputtered and panted after his sudden outburst, sinking back into the chair he was tied to.
“N-no goddamnit… I just-”
“Daniel here is one of us, he lost his family during and after the bombing of earth. Sent here as a refugee he eventually made a friend.” The doctor ran his finger around the lip of the shot glass as he interrupted him.
“But as the days dragged on in the refugee complex, and the casualty reports of earth finally reached us. Then-” The Doctor paused, and exhaled with a huff as he gestured broadly to Daniel. He was hanging his head, clearly exhausted from body language alone as the censor bar swayed to track him.
The Doctor stayed silent for a minute as he stared down at his patient.
“Are you sorry?” He finally broke the silence, and Daniel lifted his head slowly to respond.
“Ye-”
“You’ve abandoned him twice now.” The Doctor cut him off quickly as he lifted the shot glass filled with the corpse fluids of Hethek.
“You’re going to be more than sorry Daniel. You are a disgrace that plenty of other members would gladly use as a pawn. I’m not like them, but I am just like you, Daniel.” He grabbed Daniel’s hair with one hand and pulled his head back before forcefully emptying the shotglass into his mouth. He would quickly drop it and then clasped his hand over Daniel’s mouth to stop him from spitting the purge fluids out.
Daniel struggled in his seat, and began dry heaving as spittle mixed with the fluids dripped down his chin. His retching was barely muffled by the sounds of the doctor struggling to hold him still.
“Does hate taste good?” The Doctor’s calm demeanor faltered as his voice rose in anger. He let go of his hair, and slammed his now free hand onto Daniel’s broken fingers, eliciting a choked scream of agony from Daniel. The doctor let go of him full as he stepped away in one motion, and Daniel dry-heaved as the fetid fluid dripped onto the floor.
“As I said Daniel, I’m not here to make sure you are sorry. I am here to make sure you are cured, like the good doctor I am.” He placed the shot glass back onto the tray before scanning over the other tools, and plucked a box cutter from it.
“Normally I would have already made a ‘taste of your own medicine’ joke, but we’re not at the punchline yet.” He stepped beside Daniel who spat at him and grit his teeth before speaking.
“You’re fucking insane..hhk-...” Daniel choked out as the doctor tried removing the glob of mucus and rotten blood from the fake beard. He sighed and slowly extended the blade of the box cutter with a soft clacking noise, the blade covered in specks of dark orange dried blood.
“Does that make you feel better? To think that I’m somehow different from you when you’re the only person here who has murdered innocent people?” The Doctor’s voice was mocking as he slid the blade down Daniel’s forearm, cutting him lightly.
“Just kill me…” Daniel begged, flinching as blood began beading atop his forearm where the doctor has cut.
“Your little friend didn’t cut himself with a nice neat blade, so you won’t get the mercy of that.” The doctor stepped back and crouched down next to the corpse of Hethek. He gripped halfway up her forearm with one hand as he began slicing down through her wrist.
The Doctor pulled and twisted Hethek’s left paw free after about a minute of cutting. He turned the paw over in his hand before adjusting his grip on it and stepping front of Daniel. He held the paw and pushed one of the paw’s bloodied rotten claws into Daniel’s forearm with some effort.
“He did it like this with dull, blunted claws from scraping at that closet door for hours Daniel.” The Doctor pulled the claw down his arm, slowly carving it open. Daniel had been struggling in his chair from the moment the claw pierced his armed. But only now did his efforts redouble as the chair squeaked in protest, his hands gripping the armrests as he wailed and begged.
The Doctor didn’t speak until he was finished with both arms, which were now ragged and mauled. He dropped the severed paw away from him and stepped towards the camera. He stood silent for a few moments as he removed the outer layer of surgical gloves from his hands.
“I hope you all enjoyed tonight’s broadcast, and I hope you all have a very merry christmas.”
“I have to go buy eggless nog…and get him to a hospital.” The Doctor removed the camera from its tripod, the video become much more shaky.
“I want him to live with his mistakes, as I am a doctor and not an executioner.” He forced a chuckle before falling silent and then reached behind the camera.
