Glass-fiber woofers. Is this material truly better than others?
I found the woofer driver with specs which suit my DIY model the best (at least in my limited knowledge). It will play up to 650Hz. where i plan to cross it to 2inch bmr mid. Membrane is made of fiber glass. Material which is not often used by the top tier producers. Any reasons why?
What is used more? Paper, ceramics, diamond, graphene, kevlar, magnesium, carbon fiber. But very rarely glass-fiber.
Now, I was listening to the interview with Andrew Lipinski, a famous guy in audio recording industry. His speakers are used in many mastering/recording studios around the world. He was tested for his hearing abilities and.... received absolute top score.
He is saying that glass fiber to his ears sounds the most clear and natural for bass and mids out of all membrane materials.
I am pretty sure he is using scan-speak drivers, but of course, dont know for sure, as producer is not disclosed.
Anyone has some insights into this matter?
