Fun history fact about Tuesday’s episode!

Robert mentioned a Transylvanian-Hungarian soldier by the name of John Hunyadi. John is a very famous figure in Eastern European history, having fought against the Ottomans. He was able to get the diet of Hungary to unilaterally support his son, Matthias Corvinus, to be the King of Hungary. Matthias is one of the more famous Hungarian Kings, and was also known as a “law and order” man, much like Vlad. Matthias was also the king that Robert mentioned who imprisoned Vlad when he asked for support to take Walachia back. Players of 4X games might recognize the name Matthias, as he leads the Hungarians in Civ6!

Loved the episode, and I hope I was able to add some additional context as to why Matthias was so distrustful of Vlad, since his father John Hunyadi who had originally installed Vlad’d cousin as Voivode.
