OR. Help with old car my parents owned for new title

I’m not even sure how to google this without a long description.

I am the primary driver of my parent’s car and have been on their State Farm insurance for 10 years now. It’s a 2005 Camry that never dies, hence why it’s been this way for so long. I pay for the car insurance, but still the insurance is in my parents name on the card and I am just covered by it.

Recently our rates on the Camry went up 50% ($400 a year) when they called me to clarify who the primary driver is. I didn’t think anything of it until I saw the rate increase.

The plan right now is to re-title the car. Move ownership from my parents to me.

And the elephant in the room, would love to get car insurance from a different company. I saw from googling some people have issues switching car insurance for a new car.

I am worried that since the Camry will technically be a new car for me, I can’t get car insurance besides State Farm. Atleast for 6 months it sounds.

To add to this. I do own house insurance with statefarm. The other intent is to have a umbrella coverage for car and home with someone cheaper/ reasonable coverage for old car and house coverage more than $300k-$500k atleast.

TLDR: parents car being transferred to me. Car I’m considered a driver for 10 years, very recently primary. Insurance and car have always been in my parents name. I want to switch car insurance and home insurance from statefarm. Worried I can’t since it’ll technically be a new car for me.
