How is everyone escaping so fast?

Just started playing as victim. It takes a few mins for me to find a lock pick and pick a door open. As soon as I pick one door open, I see messages saying my Allies escaped through the valve exit or basement exit. Like Wth. They’re able to exit the basement, find the required items to open the escapes and escape all in a few mins?

When I try to leave the basement, I try to be as quiet as possible while playing the searching/lock pick mini games. Should I just mash and make noise while I do this to escape quicker?
