Advice needed - new mom, new job?

Anyone can respond

Seeking advice!

I have a 6 month old daughter who started daycare 1 month ago, and has been sick pretty much ever since. Currently my husband drops her off and I pick her up. We try to minimize her time there, but as it she’s there for 9-10 hours a day.

I currently work at a tech company in the Bay Area. I have 50% hybrid schedule. On the days I go into the office, my commute is 2.5-3 hours round trip. My current leadership is very flexible and accommodating. I am in a lower level position, despite functioning at a higher level. The pay is decent, but with the high costs of daycare we aren’t able to save much each month. Fortunate there are cash and stock bonuses each year, but of course those aren’t guaranteed.

About half way through maternity leave I found out the funding for my current position will expire in December, meaning I won’t have a job come next year. Over a year ago, I applied and was verbally told I received a permanent job (also a promotion) within the same team. However the position was apparently taken away and I never got it. Now, they’re saying they will make me an offer but the new position won’t start until January.

A few days ago, I received a conditional job offer with a government entity 5 minutes from my house. It is 5 days in office. However, I’ve been told that with time I can work up to 8 hours a week at home and/or a flexible schedule (4-10s or 9-80s). The pay is significantly better, however there are no bonuses.

My husband works in tech and is very busy. He goes in office 3 days a week and his commute is 3-4 hours round trip. On the days he’s in office he’s gone from 6:30am - 6pm, best case scenario. He’s unhappy with his current team and wants to find a new position, but is willing to hold off for a bit if I start at a new place.

So Reddit, what do I do?
