New to the Remedy Universe and Looking to be Filled in on Some Lore

Hey All, I'm new to the world of Alan Wake and just finished the first game. Im trying to get more prepared for Alan Wake II because it looks amazing. I somehow already owned control in epic games and i was told this is a sequal? or is just the DLC nececarry to get the rest of the lore? I'm really not looking for a combat driven game so control doesnt seem like something i want to 100%. thanks guys for any suggestions!
