Just want to share some love for New Orleans EMS and firefighters.
EMS has had a bad reputation as of late, being so short staffed and all, resulting in long wait times. But last Monday (the 15th) I had my own emergency and had to have the ambulance called and they arrived within 5 minutes.
I tripped on some new shoes I bought (PSA: fuck crocs, by the way. Never wanted them, but had some gift card money to blow and thought they'd be good for going out to the garage and stuff and not having to track shit in my house, even joked about how I bought them in camo "so nobody would see those ugly fuckers on my feet"). , I biffed it at the top of the four back steps on those fucking clown shoes (very first day I had them on too), tried to grab the storm door to catch my fall, which only swung me out beside my steps and deposited me directly onto my tibial plateau which busted up like a Hubig's pie left in my pocket all day.
While their response time was fantastic, they were two folks who were on the more petite side and not able to lift my God-Like body (Buddha) up on a gurney. Firefighters arrived within a couple minutes after them and they were able to get me up to get me to the hospital where I was bionically mended and have been residing for the past two weeks in recovery and rehab.
Anyway, not fishing for sympathy or anything, just wanted to share my personal experience that SOMETIMES, emergency services behave exactly as they would in a normal, functioning city, and I thank them for that.
