My company hasn’t provided the health insurance mentioned in the offer letter and any time that I ask I am told to wait, what to do?
Hi Reddit, need your help here. Sorry about the potentially long post. I have been working at a startup company for 8 months (non tech, cannot share more details god knows where they’ll try to get me in trouble). I get paid average salary for my field and there was health insurance mentioned in the offer letter and they said details will be given on employment commencement. Before this I was also in my family plan + health insurance through ex-employer.
Now that I turned 25 the family plan needed a lot more premium to keep me in it that at the time my family or I couldn’t do so I asked them to drop me for time being since I already had ex employer health insurance with good coverage.
I switched from my old company to current one and since they had mentioned insurance on employment commencement I was happy to still be covered.
However I asked the finance head and he said that it’s in works and to wait 2-3 months (he said this in April). I asked him again after 3 months, same response. 3 months later, same response.
A week ago, I fell really sick with having to get many tests done, I asked another person in the leadership team about the insurance stating I need it for my treatment and he said the same thing. I have to pay for all my treatment out of pocket now and it’s eating up my savings.
I had thought that maybe I will get the coverage after probation (ended 2 mos ago) but no. Also found out from another employee who has been there since over a year that they receive the same response and she encouraged me to ask and tell her too.
Is there something I can do? Pls help.
(Please don’t tell me to have taken pvt insurance in this duration I made a mistake not doing that and honestly affordability was an issue since I am the sole earner of a 4 people family with a child in school)
