Should i travel to columbia

I have some friends moving back to Columbia soon and they have asked me to visit for a few weeks to a month. My brother has warned me against this, saying it’s one of the most dangerous countries to visit. Is this true and should i got? Is there anything i can do to mitigate risk ect?
