TRADEMARK: Trademark business with similar name to other businesses

I checked the trademark database and found a lot of things, letter for letter, that were named the same thing. The space I plan on entering doesn't have remotely any overlap with any of the pre-existing businesses of the same name. Am I safe to still attempt to trademark the name? If I get the name, am I opening up myself to lawsuits? My gut says no because there are already 5+ other trademarks of the same name, I just don't want to waste the money if it will be a bad idea in the end.
