I can't boot my Steam Deck without using the 3 dots trick and selecting a previous checkpoint

Any idea what could be causing this? It just sits at a backlit black screen forever. The only way I've found out of this is to choose the previous checkpoint of the OS and then attempt an update with the Steam Deck hardwired to my network.
