Get both parents on the teacher email list!

Moms are often regarded as default parents by the schools and that often leads to us handling the majority of business with the child's school. It is so good for my marriage and our family when my husband comes home from work and immediately starts working with the kids on an assignment the teacher emailed about. I don't have to direct him, to give him explanation, to cajole him into caring. Other times, he will ask if anything else needs to be done about the special event coming up in the class because he reads all the emails. Having a partner who is as invested in our kids makes me feel validated and honored as his wife. I have so many friends whose husbands have no clue what the teacher's name even is or what grade the kid is in. That's unacceptable for any parent, but dads seem to get a pass. Dads: Contact the school office and teachers and ask to be added to the email list. Moms: Do the same, but add your husband's email. Men often come on here completely clueless about why their wives seem checked out or resentful. Becoming accountable to this one area can help so damn much.
