Thought our neighbor's house exploded last night
As trick or treating was winding down last night, we were on the couch chatting with our daughter and heard what sounded like an explosion outside. We even felt the house shake a little and both ran outside to see what had happened, fully expecting to see one of our neighbor's houses having exploded.
We couldn't figure out what had happened and checked local news sources, texted our neighbor's etc. No one else heard or knew of anything.
Then around 230am I heard a similar noise after having checked on one of my kids. Went out to the garage just to see if maybe our garage fridge had blown up or something.
It turns out, our garage door spring broke! Apparently in 2 phases since it's a 2-car garage and each side has a cable attached to the rollers.
Based on the noise and from what I've read about the amount of tension on those springs/cables I fully believe that could have been a deadly situation if one of us had been in the wrong place when that happened.
So I guess this is a friendly reminder to all the other dad's on here to have your garage door maintained. I've never touched mine in the 7 years in this house but I am definitely going to ask the guy coming to fix it today what I should be doing in the future!
[Caught the sound on the doorbell camera] (https://video.nest.com/clip/3709e4a1adcd479fbfa994e1ed44c7d3.mp4). You can hear our neighbor's dogs bark after it happened too but it physically shook our house and scared all of us!
