My (28M) ex girlfriend (30F) of 1 year together asked me “why now? Why are you changing now?”

My ex and I have been having a long distance relationship for about a year. She lives in the West Coast and I live in the East Coast. Every month we take turns visiting each other. It has not been easy. We have had our ups and downs.

In the beginning of our relationship (honey moon) everything was great. I even spent a month out there with her while working remote. Our bond evolved, and I can say without a doubt I truly love this girl.

On top of being in a LDR, I started to get too comfortable in the relationship and wasn’t paying attention to the things she requested of me such as, being available for certain phone calls, not posting her on social media, etc. I realize that those things to me might not mean anything, but to her mean a lot. I recognize that and I have told her I will change because I don’t want to lose her.

She tells me that she is “checked out.” I know when a girl says that, it usually means they won’t get back, but I still have hope that she will because she continues to text me back, she answers my calls, etc. I’m even flying out there to see her and she hasn’t told me not to go. All of this just confuses me. I’m trying my best to not pressure and find that balance. But I don’t wanna give up on us cause I do see my future with her long term and living with her out there.

TL;DR The question that she keeps asking me “why now?” I know why now and i am being remorseful and stating to her because im stupid etc. How else can I respond to that question from her ? Because she continues to constantly ask me it. Or how do I address this with her to help her understand I am going to change my ways? I really want to show action and not just continue to talk all about these things. Thank you
