Am I losing too much hair? I can't tell if being too paranoid
First of all, I'm very bad at observing myself being neurodivergent and all.
I easily forget details and often anxious that I'm misremembering things differently like if I had a mole in a certain spot or in this case, if my hair looks very different.
I'm a guy in my early 20s who decided to grow his hair out three years ago but it's just a few months ago that I decided to actually take care of it.
I already stumbled on Reddit posts where users are worried about too much hairfall and I've seen some comments suggesting that they could count as many strands as possible daily for a whole week to see their "typical" hair fall amount.
I did that a few weeks ago and I've counted 20-30 on non wash/brush days (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sunday) and 60-80 on wash/brush days (Tue, Thur, Sat).
It was pretty consistent more or less so I assumed that's what my normal hairfall looks like.
But last week, I got sick (flu like symptoms) and didn't wash my hair for a whole week and only lost about 10 strands each day and when I finally washed my hair, it felt like clumps were falling which totalled to a 120-150 strands.
Then the day after which is a non wash day, I expected only the typical 20-30 but got to a 100 by the end of the day.
I know counting is a very unhealthy habit and I'm working on not doing it but for now, having a quantitative perspective on things actually puts me at ease.
I'm not sure if there's a general average for hairfall but if there is, is my typical hairfall (20-30, 60-80) still fine and does the sudden increase make sense?
