Any tips and tricks for night / low-light street photography?

I’ve been shooting with my XT-5 + 18-55 kit lens for a while. I’ve got much better results under good lighting, but low-light often gives me smudgy or blurry results, similar to those pictures taken by earlier iPhones. In some scenarios even an iPhone 12 yields better results at nighttime. I wonder if there’s any technique that can alleviate this, apart from a larger aperture lens?
