I am originally from a conservative country in which you marry within your religion. So Muslim woman with Muslim man. In the 90's, during the wars on the Balkans,my cousin was dating a Christian man which was very frowned upon. They had a plan to marry but then her parents found out. They closed her off,were hitting, yelling and basically mentally torturing her to not to marry that guy. They were threatening her for a long time blah blah. Around a month they were doing all this bs. Anyways,her bf decided to go to the court to help her. Even though she promised her family to say she didn't want him in front of court, she went against their wishes. Said how they were misstreating her and that she really wants to date him.

The family let her go. She moved to the USA. I believe they were no contact for a while but then she started talking to them again. My mom was telling me all of this and I was like:"Wtf,why is she still talking to them?!?They don't deserve shit"

Her response is in the title. She had a reaction like I was the weird one. Her family still sucks till this day. She visited recently with her daughters which got shit talk behind their back. They are probably normal empowered women who don't let shit slide. There is no place in a conservative country like this. Their uncle described them as "destroyed in the western world." I believe he didn't get his ass kissed and got cooked for immediately as their got there. You are disrespectful as a woman there when you breath in a way a man doesn't like.
