Mom's sage or funny advice ?

What is your favorite quote or advice from mom that still rings true for you today? Or maybe has become outdated?

I think about how she never gushsed when someone complimented her clothing, or jewelry or personal items. She was demure. One time we were out, and I replied to a compliment that I'd gotten a coat at a thrift store. Afterwards, she said to me, "You don't have to give your secrets away." That sticks with me, especially now, as I realize that I had in fact not internalized that advice and made good use of it. I still feel compelled to honesty which makes me feel like a fool afterwards, highlighting my insecurities whereas my mother had the perfect balance of confidence and humility.

If she were still alive, I am sure she would have got after me about not giving away my secrets. I miss my mom.
