So I was listening to FFVIII soundtrack and ultimately « SUCCESSION OF WITCHES » started playing and I just thought that it was such a great track and that it embodied perfectly how Edea was terrifying but mysterious and interesting enough when I first played the game as a kid.

She left me a strong impression back then even with all the ultimecia shenanigans (that didn’t bothered me) and I realized that a lot of main antagonists of older FFs have let a strong impression on me when I first played their games; kefka (my personal fav), sephiroth, edea, kuja, sin (even tho it was just a « tool », it was causing a LOT of damage and you could feel how powerful and terrorizing it was), etc…

They were all very unique and I feel like they were a big part of why I liked those games, even just with their design and characterization. I WANTED to know more.

The latests main antagonists of the series didn’t left me with such strong feelings. Even though I enjoyed FFXVI a lot, Ultima didn’t truly hit the spot for me. Same goes for Vayne, Barthandelus or Ardyn for exemple and I have enjoyed those games too but I feel like the main antagonists weren’t as impactful to the players as the ones in previous games.

So I’m wondering; how do you feel about recents main antagonists and what kind of main antagonist YOU would like to see in future FF mainline games? (I do not include FFVIIRe games in this for obvious reasons)

What kind of main antagonist for future mainline games
