WA state realtor dispute, contract question

Seattle Eastside- buyer had a verbal agreement with realtor to represent her, no official contract. Realtor sold home to someone else. Buyer is wondering if this is unethical. Question: would a realtor buyer contract have helped? Any Seattle eastside realtors that can give better compassionate service?
