Just realized there's a lot of moral ambiguity in this game
Recent debate about Topaz has made me realize that a lot of the characters in this game have actively done something or have an ideology that's not exactly what I would call "good". Or at least among the ones we see in the main story anyway.
- Herta's relentless pursuit of the secrets of the universe and the Aeons is admirable but she also seems to not care about peoples emotions and treats all her "followers" at the space station pretty shit.
- Bronya and Seele's decision at the end of the Belobog arc I'd say is pretty controversial. Seen a lot of debate on if that was a good call or not.
- Jing Yuan I'd say it mostly cool but his attitude towards Dan Heng and attributing his past self's sins to his current self I'd say is very much not cool. Same with everyone else on the Luofu
- Idk what the heck Jingliu and Luocha's deal is but I doubt it's good
- And then the Stellaron Hunters are just the Stellaron Hunters
Add Topaz into that mix and consider how a lot of side quests seem to revolve around the idea of choosing between what you think is good/bad and you seem to get a looooot of grey areas. Which is interesting to me since Genshin I feel has a lot more clear blacks and whites both in terms of its characters and quests. Not to say it's bad or anything just something I noticed is all.
For sure seems like Hoyo is trying to do a different kind of storytelling with HSR. Leaving it up to the player to decide what's right or wrong.
