Unsure how to feel after my consultant dismissed surgery as an option.
I'd really appreciate everyone's thoughts on this. I had an appt today to discuss recent findings including an MRI. The consultant wasn't the one I saw previously who I'd found reassuring. Today's was a bit all over the place.
She immediately started the convo by getting my name wrong (d'oh) and then launching into an explanation of how surgery isn't necessary for everyone with endo, it's only helpful a certain percentage of the time etc. I had an MRI a few weeks ago after a cyst was found, which is a 4-5cm endometrium. She said other than that, there are no issues, my ovaries and uterus look healthy. She asked if I wanted children - I do, very much - and she said there's nothing showing that would be a problem.
She said as I have all the symptoms I don't need surgery for her to diagnose endo. She said it's clear from everything that I do have it. Yay for diagnosis, I guess?!
She said she'd like to start me on the combined pill as a treatment plan but after we spoke about when I'm planning to start a family (within the next year), she said there wouldn't be much point and I should just crack on with trying. And depending on what happens there, we can return to a treatment plan.
I did try and get her to pause a few times and asked her whether I need the cyst removed (4-5cm sounds quite significant) and she was quite dismissive of that.
The whole chat was quite rushed and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at times. Coming into it, I had assumed that I would be referred for a lap and then I could make a decision after that about when to start trying for a baby.
I don't know whether I should feel relieved that she's not saying there is a major issue I need surgery for and my fertility should be okay, OR worried/ upset that I've been fobbed off and need it looking into further. Anyone have any ideas/ similar experiences?
