Question for biotech/pharma startup founders

Hi there,

I want to launch a biotech/pharma startup. I've got the idea and the theoretical research to support it, however, I need initial funding to be able to test the idea in the lab and build the prototype.

I'll be applying for grants. But I'm wondering if there's another way to get that initial small funding. Everybody tells me no VC will invest if I don't have the proof of concept or the prototype.

If there are any biotech founders here who know other early-stage funding methods besides grants, please let me know.
