Texas TRS early retirement question (sort of)

Was having this conversation today with a coworker. He has 15 years in TRS. He’s very young…mid 30s. He’s rule of 80.

If he were to quit teaching, can his TRS annuity just sit there until he reaches age 65, (65 +15=80) and then collect whatever annuity he has earned form when he quit teaching?
