Is EMG testing required? Experiences?
Hi all. Long story short, pain management Dr, PT, and neuro say I have cervical dystonia. But my neuro thinks it’s a good idea to see a Movement Disorder Specialist before Botox to confirm it’s “primary.” Now, not that I think that’s a bad idea to see a MDS, I totally agree but it took me 8 weeks to get in with neuro and will take another 2-3 months to get into MDS. And I must admit, I am very afraid they’ll want to do EMG. I don’t know why I am anxious about that cause I’ve had tons of surgeries and tests (including a bone marrow biopsy!) that have never made me nervous cause I have a high pain tolerance. But for some reason, I’m afraid of this.
- Have people seen an EMG being necessary for diagnosis? My CD is almost constant but what if I’m not in a flare and the test looks normal? Is that possible?
- If you have, how was your experience? And please be brutally honest 😊.
- I have a follow up with my neuro first next week. Should I push for a trial of Botox at least? I’m on medical leave and just want to try SOMETHING to make progress. Thanks in advance! All opinions welcome!
