What would you all have done in this situation? Long post...

A couple weeks ago, my daughter and I travelled about 150 miles to see a concert at a small venue in Chesterfield, MO. We did everything right to not drink and drive. We booked a hotel room and Ubered to and from the concert.

My daughter did a little drinking at the hotel while we got ready and we both drank at the venue. I did not drink as much as her and when I noticed she was getting too drunk, I called our Uber and left the concert to return to the hotel.

She was in bed so I took my bedtime meds which included my usual dose of Amitriptyline which I do take for insomnia because I work night shift and it's generally difficult to sleep when I get off in the morning. I am then woke up by police officers in our hotel room. I had no idea what was going on because I had been sleeping very soundly in my bed.

Apparently, my daughter left the room for an unknown reason...I'm guessing to go to the vending machine or to smoke some weed. Well, she didn't take a key and was attempting to wake me up by banging on the door and yelling. So, someone called the police.

Instead of deescalating the situation and just letting her in to go to bed, they forced me out of bed and made us go outside and informed us we were being kicked out of the hotel. They were not going to let us get our belongings but eventually gave in. I could not find my cell phone and they didn't give me the time nor the help in finding it. I needed my phone to transfer money so we could book a room elsewhere.

We were told that if we left the car and Ubered to another hotel, the car would be towed. That didn't matter because we couldn't go to another hotel. They told us we needed to drive elsewhere and that we couldn't sleep in the car in the hotel parking lot. They promised not to pull us over but couldn't guarantee the other cops in town wouldn't do the same. The car was our only shelter and it was cold that night so really we had no choice but to drive somewhere safe and legal to sleep at.

Neither of us were in any condition to drive, her being drunk, and me being medicated, but my daughter was the better option at that time. We didn't go far because we also needed gas, so we pulled over to find a gas station on the map. Immediately a police officer pulled in behind us and came to the window and said "you need to keep driving, you can't park here either". He didn't care that we were simply looking for a gas station that was open, we had to keep driving.

We did drive a town away and found a school on the outskirts of the town, I had to Uber to a gas station to get us gas at that point, we sat there for hours before starting to drive home, and still had to stop twice to sleep because I was dozing off while driving.

I don't understand why they thought us driving in the condition we were in was the best option. Why not take us in to sober up? What option did they give us that was safe for us and the people of their town that were out driving at that time? What would you all have done? Even in hindsight, I don't know what the best option would have been.
