A rant about customers and eftpos machines
Today I served a man who regularly comes in. When it came time for him to pay, he tapped his card real quick on the eftpos machine - too quick for the machine to pick it up - assumed it went through and started to put his card away. I asked him to please try again. He took his card out again and does that several more times aggressively.
I then asked him to please tap & hold his card on the terminal for a few moments, otherwise the machine will not pick it up. He said in an annoyed tone "So it's not tap then! It's hold!". Thing is every time he comes in he does the same thing. You'd think by now he'd know.
Not 10 minutes after this encounter, another customer wanted to get cash out. At our store, you'd need to insert the card into the terminal for cash out. I reminded him to please insert your card. He taps. The machine beeps tap not accepted. I said again just a bit louder in case he didn't hear me - please insert the card. He taps again. Third time, same thing. Until he realised and did finally insert the card. But then it declined anyway because his card was a credit card and we don't do cash advances.
Sorry about the long rant, just wanted to vent after a crappy shift at work.
