If the shape of our ears influences our hearing, then how would the hearing of a fantasy race with pointed ears - think elves, hylians, and so on - work? Would their hearing be better or worse than ours?

I've tried researching this for myself, but I've found basically no good information on the topic. I've tried looking up how the acoustics of actual human ears work, hoping to extrapolate that information to different ear shapes somehow, and I got nowhere. I tried asking why some animals have rounded ears while others have pointy triangular ones, hoping to understand what are the acoustic properties of different ear shapes, and I got no good answers.
