3-week-old baby doesn’t sleep well at night, and now is also suddenly wide awake during the day. What is going on? Is this normal at this age?

Discussion

So my 3-week-old baby has never been the greatest sleeper at night. There are exceptions where she sleeps great at night, but most nights it’s a struggle to get her to stay asleep.

She’ll typically fall asleep in my arms and when I try and gently transfer her to her bassinet she’ll wake up again crying within like 10 minutes lol. This goes on all night.

I’ve come to accept that she’s not the greatest sleeper at night and I’ll probably be sleep-deprived for awhile, but NOW she’s also wide awake during the day. This just started recently.

When she’s awake during the day she’s not even really that fussy. Her eyes are just wide open. She doesn’t look tired. I can’t get her to take a nap.

I thought newborn wake windows were supposed to be super short, but she’ll stay awake for hours.

I genuinely don’t believe I’m doing anything wrong. I’ve tried different things and nothing is working.

It seems like she’s going through a phase or something, but is this sudden change normal THIS early? Did anyone else’s newborn do this around this age?

I’m so tired and I looked forward to her naps during the day to have a small amount of time to myself to refresh and what not, but now it’s a struggle.

Everyone says it gets easier after the newborn stage, but I find that hard to believe lol.
