So I Finished the Main Quest and... Poof

Once I finished the main quest and became starborn and got NG+ I immedialty reverted to my previous saved game. All that work, all the shit I collected just gone? I mean i get what the devs are doing in keeping the game playable but cmon... I spent all that time on my ship and whatnot and poof... Gone... Anyone else do the same?

I still have some systems in red that I haven't even been to yet. I guess there's more to do in the first game before I become starborn?

Anyone else have suggestions, ideas? Or did others do the same?
