How to handle burnout
I became an RBT in January of this year. Before that I was a paraprofessional and that’s how I was introduced to ABA. I seriously love my job and seriously could not see myself working in any other field. I love my clients and the growth I get to see them make. I was brought to tears when one of my nonverbal clients started speaking😭 I know this field is the one for me. With that being said I am having a hard time going to work! By the end of the week I feel so exhausted and for the last 3 weeks I’ve been calling off at least 1 day out of the week. One of my clients is very very busy, whiny, and recently started new behaviors of spitting and flopping. I’m usually very good at ignoring and waiting out my kid. Yesterday during a session I felt myself getting extremely frustrated and wanting to just go home. I can’t tell if it’s burn out or the clinic I work at. I started at this clinic at the beginning of September and I know no clinic is perfect but, this clinic feels highly unethical and shady in my opinion. For example I don’t feel the client’s dignity is respected as it should be and feel they are only seen as dollar signs to the owner. I don’t have it in me to start at a new clinic and restart that shadowing/ orientation process. I really just want to just get comfortable at a clinic and build a strong long term rapport with my clients. I just find it so hard to find the motivation to go in the morning. Any tips on what I could do to help with this feeling?
