Bought a house in a quiet neighborhood that quickly became loud due to trucking business expansion
Hi we bought our house in a area that's a little bit of mixed use Suburban with some businesses on a main Corridor in a township/city. It was pretty quiet when we first moved in I mean as quiet as that area can be totally tolerable. A local trucking company that was pretty small before apparently own a bunch of land and decided to dramatically expand their business like four times. The construction itself is pretty much done the problem is there is so much traffic now that we can hear the backup beeping of the trucks from day and night inside of our house with the doors and windows all closed. The beeping is so incessant and irritating like even with the TV on you can still hear it over that. There are other people who live plenty closer than us even and I can't imagine how loud it is for them. There's already a huge problem because the company was supposed to put up a retaining wall for the sound and they decided not to do that and are going to plant trees which are going to take obviously decades to have any kind of impact of anything. It's kind of at the point now where the company is not doing anything, this gets caught up pretty regularly at our neighborhood watch meeting yet there's no action from the company. I have no idea what to do at this point I left a Google review of the location with a one-star saying I'm a local homeowner that's struggling with the noise pollution from their increased truck traffic and asking if someone can reach out to me. Other than that I have no idea if there's anything I can do. It's shocking in retrospect the city ever approved this considering it's literally in the middle of a downtown this isn't like on the highway on the outskirts of town this is a trucking company that's now the size of an Amazon warehouse in the middle of a mostly residential area. Any thoughts on what else I can do? Are windows are 35 years old and we are on a budget but considered trying to replace them next year though when I talk to Wallside Window and other companies they say that there's unlikely to be anything we can do and that new windows probably won't help much. We do sleep with a white noise machine at night which helps.
