Would a simple IF/THEN statement in the coding allow Hulu to stop playing episodes from the middle/end?

Apologies, but this was removed from r/Hulu and I'm just super curious and would love some insight.

I don't mean to minimize the effort it takes to create an app or platform like Hulu, but I can't help but feel like somewhere in the coding, they should be able to implement a statement that says something along the lines of...

"IF [previous episode plays to completion], THEN [next episode plays from beginning]."

If any software developers, coders, or programmers are around, I'd love to know if I'm underestimating the difficulty of getting every episode to play from the top during a binge. My partner and I love to have Bob's Burgers running pretty non-stop throughout the day, and it often will just jump to the middle of an episode after the end of the previous one. And I don't understand why that is such a difficult hurdle to overcome.
