Theory: all WADS- I mean mods are canon
I bet my ass someone has already thought of this but I haven’t seen any posts about it so here we go
So as we all know ddlc being a literal video game is canon which implies that all aspects of a video game should be canon as well. We see Monika tampering with the files and the player can as well (obviously) so it isn’t far fetched to say that a player modding the game could fit into the games canon.
One of my favorite mods, Purist Mod, handles this idea very well. For those who haven’t played it in the mod Monika mentions how the mod is a sort of dream to her and when the mod ends she “wakes up”. I think this idea could be used in any mod since after the mod ends any doki with sentience won’t remember what happened and everything will go back to the way it was as if it was a dream.
Even ddlc plus delves into this topic in a way with the reveal of virtual machines and controlled simulations. Right now we know of 2 virtual machines and a controlled simulation, one is ddlc as we know it and the 2nd one is project libitina. The controlled simulation is the side stories where Monika isn't sentient and MC doesn't exist. On a technical level there really isn't anything significant about the side stories I mean its really just some changed dialogue, new cgs, and music does that sound familiar to you? Yeah its literally just a mod lmao. We only know of this one mod that was created by Metaverse but who knows how many could have been made? Im sure some mods have been made without direct approval from Metaverse it's entirely possible! I may be remembering this wrong but I'm pretty sure Dan Salvato even said in one of his anniversary livestreams that ddlcs story is more like a ddlc-verse or something like that. If anyone could find a clip of him saying that I would love to see it.
So yes Buffsuki, Exit Music, and Amori Fati are all canon... or maybe this game is getting to my head.
