Beginning resources

Am looking for a shorter resources, maybe like a pop book that has a board overview of everything that this field covers

Maybe an encyclopedia about that since that would be more explanatory

Or textbooks about the widely different language and communication patterns of english speakers in different places and areas, but all of which about the developed nations

Textbooks doesn't seem like they're usually about very specific info topics and highly detailed info, and seem to be usually be about general info and topics, so maybe they won't be helpful or useful

Possibly other resources am not aware of but that would fit above
