Centurion Lounge Guest Access without Physical Card?

Has anyone been in a situation bringing a guest into a Centurion Lounge post-change where guests cost $ now?

On the website, it says the guest fee must be paid with a physical Amex card and unfortunately we left it at home and only have our Gold with us. Has this been the case for everyone?
