I (21F) don’t know how to interpret something my ex-partner (21f) did and I don’t know if I should ask for clarification
This turned out long, so I’m sorry for that.
First some background context: we were friends at first for a few years, and it turns out we both developed romantic feelings for each other. We dated for three months before she broke things off because she wasn’t in a place in her life where she could have a relationship in the way that she would be satisfied with. It was an “it’s not you it’s me” situation, but she didn’t say it like that. It’s been two months since then. It was on relatively good(?) terms, it just wasn’t initially handled in the best way, but we were able to have a conversation about that later to clear up confusion. She still cares about me, and I still care about her (which honestly makes it impossible to just move tf on).
She was also going to be performing in a show at a community theatre, and I still went in spite of everything because I know how important it was to her, and she wanted me to go. Her character used a tiny water gun as a “laser gun”, and when she doesn’t need it anymore she hands it to someone in the audience. When I went to the show, she found me, and gave me the water gun. The thing is, before that, she locked eyes with me and kissed the water gun. Her expression was very kind, which was very different from her character. So I don’t think she would’ve broke character in that specific way every time she handed over the water gun to someone (especially a stranger)?
We haven’t been talking much since the breakup. A few friendly texts, nothing fancy. We’ve both been busy. It was pretty much me who initiated every conversation but they weren’t shot down by her. I’ve been thinking about the water gun for a few days now and I can’t tell if she meant something by it, or if I should assume it was nothing. I could straight up ask her what she meant by it (and say that I don’t want to be drawing false conclusions), but I don’t want to do anything invasive/inappropriate/uncomfortable.
Basically, my question is whether or not it would be a good idea to ask her if she meant anything by it.
Thanks!
