Wiki Wednesdays #55: Sky Domain
Excerpt from Ahan of the Azure Hide’s letters home regarding his merchant venture in Dakmender continued.
“Dear my moon, Aji,
I continue as promised with words of Semayi’gera, or Sky Domain. In my time here, it has been this practice that has truly led me to recognize this land as the Cradle of Storms. Unlike us, they have only a sole god in reverence, Amilak. Lord of skies and bringer of rain, he rules the heavens alone although they do recognize “God-Kin” who our High Gods would fall under.
As the essence of order, Amilak is the divine guardian of these lands. Ruling over wind and water, dwelling in the skies above me now. He even rules over the souls of the departed Mengi, who are appointed his divine servants. It’s hard to pinpoint one correct depiction of Amilak amongst Mengi art, though my favorite rendition is an ancient, dark skinned man with a long, cloudy beard and flowing locs of silver color, atop a throne of clouds.
Though I did say Amilak is sole ruler of heaven, he is in truth not alone. Yrilak! Bearer of fault and bane of the people! Arbitrary and capricious, this twin brother of Amilak is evil through and through! Responsible for the ‘division of mankind and godking’, he is everything a bad ruler would be. He is even the owner of the ‘Shadow Swamp’ as the Mengi say.
There is so much more, I have not even touched on the Afterlife, Semayebaka, or the Divine Servants! Continue to read forth, the world of the Mengi is so much larger than we ever knew!”
