Can a landlord change the type of heating in a rental home?

My Chimney needs a new liner. In addition to this the oil tank is expiring in January.

As a result my landlords are looking to replace the wood / oil furnace for a propane furnace.

My concern is the increased cost. I currently heat with wood almost exclusively. Since I cut my own wood it's almost free.

Are the landlords allowed to change the heating type like this?
