Is it too late to switch over to tech industry for someone in their mid 30s?

Advice

I have been working in the engineering field for about 8 years, honestly I don’t really enjoy my career as I felt that there was not much connection between me and engineering related things. Just doing the typical engineer things and over the years manage to promote and progress even though I have no interest. I always hear people saying that passion snd interest will die off eventually and what’s important is the money that you’re making. But to begin with no interest in this field and it was a mistake to begin with from the day I took up engineering in my studies day was already dreaded to think about it.

Fast forward, there was a little change in my company’s management direction for the past 1 year. They decide to embrace automation and digital things, making employees to learn how to do simple codings for our new robots in factory as well as developing some simple mobile applications for the company staffs to use. I’m part of this project and it sparks joy in me whenever I’m doing coding or programming related tasks. I have never felt such career satisfaction before and this has goes on for the past 1 year ever since I joined the project.

So my question for you all is, is it worth it for me to take up a part time Bsc in software engineering degree and hopefully I will be able to move on to a full tech role in 3-4 years time? The problem is, I will be in my mid 30s by then and I’m not sure if age is an issue for tech firms to consider when hiring. Furthermore I will be deem as a junior since I have no tech experience, other than doing some simple mobile applications currently…

Hope to hear some advice from you all, if you have successfully did a career switch to tech industry, or if you’re a veteran in tech field who can advice me on how can I progress and proceed with the switch.
